Cuba Student Photo Workshop

HAVANA

After the long standstill due to the pandemic that forced us all to stay at home, we are  happy being able starting again with our first student photo workshops, which will take place over 4 days in Havana, one in February and one in March.

These workshops are intended for participants who are already in Cuba in this time. After you have reserved your place, we will see which days are best suited for all interested participants and will set the final workshop dates.

On each workshop day, we will meet, depending on our days theme, either early in the morning or at noon for 4 to 5 hours and take a photographic assignment in the context of the city and its culture and history. Based on the individual photographer’s concept, which we will tailor to each participant during the workshop, you are free to continue the other half of the workshop day, alone or with fellow photographers, to explore the city. The next day we will review your photographic work, before we begin our next assignment.
In addition, there are parallel special photo opportunities, for example working with models, dancers or visiting a special indoor location, a vintage car tour or participating in a ritual from an African-Cuban Santeria religion.
The additional fees or charges for the tours, locations or models and dancers, will be shared between the interested participants. For more detailed infos before hand write us an email and will come back to you.

This Workshop is open to photographers at all levels who are basically technically self-sufficient, and passionate about improving their image making, in a mindful approach.

Meet your Tutor

Joerg Alexander Reichardt

Joerg has been a freelance photographer since the eighties. After studying art in Basel,Switzerland, he was involved in a number of theatrical and film productions before dedicating himself exclusively to photographic work in Berlin, Paris, Milano and New York. Joerg has never lost the sense of the theatrical and the dramatic, shown by his urgency and energy to the images he creates.

Joerg‘s work is diverse, ranging from a basis in staged commissioned photography and portraiture to personal documentation and fiction. It expands from the often glorious world of advertising to that of the non-profit, as well as the playful, and hidden inner worlds of the heart and soul.

In his work Joerg is concerned with finding new approaches to story and character, as well as with exploring the limits and possibilities of language and images itself, poetically charged, fueling the imaginary space. In his staged photography Joerg’s work merges the timelessness of composition with the liveliness and presence of spontaneously unfolding events. In his documentary work he is drawn to the exploration of social ideas and beliefs, confined in the perspective of an outsider witnessesing the social game that enfolds. Working across these contradictory contexts Joerg approaches related ideas time and again from diffrent angles, in the urge to get closer to the issues and experiences that interest him – always in search of a new perspective however different, deviating, or rewarding it proves to be.

His clients include many different brands, institutions and agencies, among them:  Nikon, Absolut Vodka, Deutsche Bahn, Bank Austria, Raiffeisen Bank, Commerzbank, Deutsche Grammophon, Puma, Adidas, Toni Gard, Mondo Uomo, Kunstpalast Düsseldorf, Komische Oper Berlin, Residenztheater München, Berliner Philharmonie, Publicis Paris, TBWA Paris, Jung von Matt and Ogilvy&Mather.
