The workshop is also about learning how to edit your work intuitively, including discussions on how to take your photography to the next level. Alexander teaches you his philosophy in photography – how to develop concepts, work on the street, make portraits, work with body and movement, shoot with natural and artificial light and bring images to life in post-processing.

The overall theme of the workshop is Berlin ‘City of Rebellion’. The workshop will begin with Alexander reviewing and critiquing each participant’s previous work as a starting point for a larger discussion on various photographic themes. Later on, participants will work on their first assignment, which they will choose themselves. It can be a specific event, a street and its neighbourhood, a subculture or an ethnic group, a specific profession, a family or an individual; it can be photographing different events or festivals in the city, it can be continuing an ongoing project in Berlin; but it should be something you are passionate about photographing.
Over the next days of the workshop we will meet in the mornings and as a group critique the participants’ work in progress. Over the course of the workshop we will try to create a coherent set of images for each photographer that represent his or her photographic approach or attitude. On the final day, we will look at the individual works as a group and contextualise them within the overall theme of the workshop.
As we are a small group, you will receive a very personal tuition to ensure that it is suitable for your level, and Alexander can respond spontaneously to individual preferences when they occur. You can expect to learn how to deal with light, how to compose compelling and complex images, how to interact with people. Alexander will explain his photographic vision to you and assist you to find and develop your own.

Berlin, City of Rebellion.
"Wer sich nicht wehrt, lebt verkehrt"
Everywhere in Berlin there are places that were the scene of revolts: the student movement in the West, the opposition in the East, the feminists, squatters and punks in both parts of the city. As much as the reactions of the respective state powers to the young rebels on both sides of the Wall differed, the motives and courage of the people who rebelled against outdated orders and authorities were surprisingly similar. The city is full of stories of a rebellious metropolis based on people, houses, streets and squares. They create a topography of rebellion that invites you to stroll, discover and marvel with your camera.
